Manufacturing execution systems (MES) are computerized systems used in manufacturing to track and document the transformation of raw materials to finished goods. MES provides information that helps manufacturing decision-makers understand how current conditions on the plant floor can be optimized to improve production output.
MES may operate across multiple function areas, for example management of product definitions across the product life-cycle, resource scheduling, order execution and dispatch, production analysis and downtime management for overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), product quality, or materials track and trace.
Benefits :
- Reduced waste, re-work and scrap, including quicker setup times.
- More accurate capture of cost information (e.g. labour, scrap, downtime, and tooling).
- Increased uptime.
- Incorporate paperless workflow activities.
- Manufacturing operations traceability.
- Decreases downtime and easy fault finding.
- Reduced inventory, through the eradication of just-in-case inventory.
- It help create flawless manufacturing processes.
- provide real-time feedback of requirement changes.

Solution: Solution proposed as creation of synchronous SOAP interfaces using SAP ECC and SAP PI/PO. MES will consume the interface using a WSDL link. Request from MES side will execute interface in SAP system and SAP system sends back data requested to MES in Response. Some more processes done using these interfaces on SAP side when input parameters passed from MES:
- Production Order Confirmation by SAP.
- Goods Issue of BOM after production order confirmation
Goods Issue occurs when raw materials are used to produce a material as per a production order. A Bill of Materials (BOM) is a list of components needed to produce a product.
- Goods Receipt of Finished Goods after production order confirmation
Good receipt is performed when the material is produced as per Production order and goods are placed at the storage location.
- Scrap Process
Scrap is an inevitable part of the production process. It can be due to excess material, defective parts, or damaged products. Three types of scraps are. assembly scrap, component scrap, and operation scrap.
Some interfaces what we have delivered includes:
- Get BOM/ Component list from ECC to MES
- Routing Details for a given Material
- Function Module for MFBF Scrap Process
- MFBF Yield Scrap Component
- MFBF Yield Scrap Activity
- MFBF Yield Scrap Reversal
- Get Inventory Details
